Share club valuation @ 5 Aug 2018

Post by richard@imutual » Sun Aug 05 2018 11:11am

Here are the figures for the Cashback Investment Club's latest valuation, based on our investments and cash holdings as at 5 Aug

Since the last valuation on 8 Jul, the club's unit price has dropped from £0.8458 to £0.8234, a change of -2.65%. See Unit price calculations

Members have paid a further £75.46 into the club since 8 Jul, and these have been converted to units at the new price of £0.8234. You can see a history of your own payments here

We currently have 16 members who have made 339 payments into the club totalling £6,684.73. The total value of our current assets is £5,732.82. Our list of our past investment decisions can be found here, and valuations of our current holdings (based on market mid-prices) can be viewed here

Our current cash holdings consist of £224.02 held in our Co-op bank account, + a further £392.92 held in our Share Centre dealing account.

kevinchess1 has decided to "cash in his chips" so I will be making a payment to him in the next week for his accumulated units, based on the latest unit price. I'd like to thank him for his contributions to the club discussions over the years and maybe we can tempt him back at some later date

Do we have enough money in the account to cover Kev's amount? If not perhaps all existing members that wish to could add additional funds to speedily pay back what Kev is owed. Alternatively I am not against Thunderdog's request. I know this is a little unusual in terms of process but do not see if any real harm as the transaction would be clean and clinical (i.e. Kev's units valued and Thunderdog pays that exact amount and gets the exact amount of units that Kev held).

I suggested this before and the idea was dismissed. Seems a better way of keeping funds in the fund.

I think it's against the constituion
All funding has to come from Imutual earnings
Politically incorrect since 69

My funding is in place - I need only the approval of the CIC members - a change in the constitution to allow current members to buy out leaving members units.

I estimate kevinchess1 units to be worth in the region of £1600. I have the cash ready, steady, go.

And so do I on my lonesome.

It is ONE vote per CIC MEMBER. The size of my holding would not give me any special rights, privileges or advantages over my fellow CIC members.

I don't see the problem with buying people out. It keeps the funds in the club, instead of reducing our holdings (and therefore disproportionately increase the charges per transaction). Did it even make it as far as a vote last time? I'd second anyone that proposed it, on the basis that multiple persons could contribute to the buy-out, no-one was excluded who wanted to purchase from a "leaver" (eg. Person A wants £200 of the chunk, person B £50, person C £10, the rest from club funds if needed etc.)

What is the rationale behind NOT doing this? The 'cashback only' aspect?

It's only about 1/4 of that.
