No - no matter how hard you wish it.

In 6 months time there will be another government in Italy. It was ever thus.

"Since you left Milan, the public debt has risen by €115 million" an advert on the Milan underground letting commuters know the countries over night financial situation....

The current coalition Government is promising €Billions in more public spending and tax cuts (!) so they can stay in power - sound to me as if it is a recipe for disaster... :wtf:

Sounds to me like you're desperate for something to make Brexit seem less of a disaster!

Another attempt to make the pro-Brexit or anti-EU case based on flimsy arguments or unsupported assertions.

I'm happy to participate in a reasoned and informed debate on either subject. On past form the OP is only interested in rehearsing his opinions and prejudices.

I'm out.

I don't understand
What's the England Cricket Board got to do with it?
Politically incorrect since 69

They've as good a chance as anyone of reforming the Italian political system.

Italian governments come and go with erratic frequency, mostly falling before 3 years. Those that last longer often attract accusations of Mafia involvement or other nefarious activity. With such inherent instability, it is not surprising that Italian politics and economics tend to take a short term view of the future.

To some extent the country is still a patchwork or local kingdoms, with a strong economic bias towards the north of the country. Arguably it is only events like Italian Unification, and the establishment of the EC and EU that have provided a stabilising framework in which Italy can settle - and this is very much a work in progress.

And yet somehow Italy staggers on from crisis to crisis, with its leaders variously dodging or falling victim to each new trouble, and beneath it all, the 'informal economy' keeps the wheels turning. This latest fiscal policy may be a recipe for disaster, but so were plenty before. Italy will muddle on regardless.

I'm not sure why you call the euro an experiment. What is it trying to prove, 18 years after it's inception? The 'experiments' or theoretical testing took place before it was introduced.

Euro up against the Pound this morning.

New thread needed: IS THE POUND GOING TO COLLAPSE AND IF IT DOES, WHAT WOULD CHURCHILL HAVE DONE?
