The stupidity in all this is that anyone expects things to be "normal" or that they will go back to normal, whether politician or public.

The virus is with us, it mutates, it remains - we have an abysmal record in eradicating viruses, so it will stay with us and we will need to defend against it and/or accept the consequences.

It may become more contagious, it may become less deadly, we will develop better defences and better treatments - an if we can keep the number of infections to a treatable level, the number of deaths may reduce to a similar level as those from flu or other infectious diseases.

Protect yourself - don't expect others to do it.....
Spot on

Still trying to get my second vax...... finally managed to get a date of January 5th but 30 miles away!

Second vax is actually viable from Dec 22 on website, but no availability - actually, because it's Pfizer, it could be given 2 weeks earlier, but the website doesn't cater for that....

With all the targets now set to boosters, I'll just have to be careful over Christmas :(

Crazy, especially after the way the first rounds were done

A lady on the radio said she wanted one for her housebound husband. 2 appts both well over 20 miles away. Feel lucky, I went online and asked my surgery about the jabs as DH is more vulnerable than most although not the most vulnerable. Within hours we got an appt. Seemed as if we all had the same time at the jab centre as we had to queue for quite a while. But had it done. And please just pop on a jumper so you can quickly get your arm ready. I see too many people getting jabs for flu or covid wearing a coat when they go in or remove coat to reveal blouse and cardigan on top. A real waste of time undoing shirt or blouse.

My first jab at the hospital entailed me going to one clinic to then be sent to a different location at the other end of the hospital....... I needed my coat!

"Omicron" is an anagram of "moronic"

"TV's moronic posh verbose ninja" is an anagram of "Conservative PM Boris Johnson"

I've seen that cited as "evidence" that the vaccine is harmful (or something).

Is this the future? First Austria then the President of the EU Ursula von der Leyen has said
the emergence of Omicron means it is time to consider mandatory vaccinations across Europe’s member states.. The European Commission President told reporters in Brussels: “On the one hand we have the virus and the variants, on the other hand we have vaccination and boosters and I want the second part to win"
and now Germany

Germany restricts lives of un-jabbed
Germany’s national and regional leaders have agreed new measures that bar unvaccinated people from much of public life. Only those who have been vaccinated or who have recently recovered from Covid will be allowed in restaurants, cinemas, leisure facilities and many shops. In addition, parliament will consider making Covid jabs mandatory from February. Germany’s fourth wave of Covid is its most severe so far and hospitals in the south and east of the country have transferred patients to other regions because of a shortage of intensive care beds.
