Just because I'm paranoid, it doesn't mean they're not out to get me

A friend of mine worked as a 999 ambulance call taker. He's the voice asking you if the patient is breathing, bleeding etc. He's giving it up because he can't face telling someone with a heart attack that an ambulance might be with them in a few hours.

Last year his area had 1 death which could have been avoided if the ambulance had got there sooner.
This year they were at 32 at the end of November.

The government distort figures when it comes to Nurses, Ambulance staff or even Rail employees when it comes to pay. Firstly, they happily quote the pay of "fully qualified" Nurses and Train drivers..... whilst ignoring the fact that many of the ancilliary staff get paid far less. Then, particularly in the Nurses case, they quote "earnings", including the overtime payments for cover because there is a lack of staff. Then there is the suggestion that it's a "caring" job, but not as skilled as a banker. Nurses now require a degree to pursue their career - paramedics likewise. They undertake duties that a few years back would have required a doctor..... but they are still lower status than City brokers.

All of this ignores the fact that the guy at the Station does NOT get paid the same as a Driver, that call handlers get paid far less than their front-line colleagues and that the auxilliries and nursing assistants do NOT get anything like the pay of a Nurse-Specialist or Practice Nurse. But hey, let's lift the cap on Banker's bonuses to stimulate the economy eh.... and the Nurses can just make do with a bit of a clap......

Oddly it seems, most GPs are not subject to the same constraints as their front-line colleagues... they are amongst the highest paid in the world - https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/articl ... 0-000.html. But then, GPs join golf clubs......

Are this current government in total denial?

The week 3/1/23
Health chief sends SOS to Sunak

A leading doctor is calling on Rishi Sunak to save the NHS as it “buckles under soaring demand and years of cuts”, said The Mirror. The future of the health service is on a knife-edge but it is “within the government’s gift to pull it back from the brink”, said Professor Phil Banfield. Amid claims that up to 500 people a week are dying because of delays in emergency care, Labour said it was “inexplicable” that no government ministers had “raised their head or shown their face to say exactly what they are doing to grip this crisis”.
