Nationwide to give 5% cashback on supermarket spending

Post by expressman33 » Thu Feb 09 2023 6:14pm

Nationwide customers can earn 5% cashback on their supermarket shopping when shopping both online and instore.
The deal, capped at £10 a month, is available to both new and existing customers who have a current account with Nationwide. https://moneyweek.com/personal-finance/ ... dium=email

do we have to do anything to initiate this? Does this apply to debit card usage?

Yes, debit cards only. I don't see any mention of activating or opting-in to this offer. It does say "automatically qualify" in this term:
You automatically qualify for 5% cashback on all Qualifying Spend made from your current account (excluding FlexOne), up to £10 per month.

Thanks but I am sad to see Premier stores are not included. But I need a shop I can walk to for top up stuff so will still be using our debit card there more than once a week. Nice owners, nice part time staff and so handy for us so on the basis of use it or lose it I will be using it. And our main shop is done using a Natwest card sigh

so up to £200spend/month on a Nationwide debit card.. haven't spent on my FlexAccount card for years. we do need to spend at least £60/m or won't qualify, and it is only for February, March and April. with Clubcard vouchers and Love2Shop vouchers knocking around, and points to collect via Amex.. not sure it's worth it for me, but it's good to see them doing this.

Does it say that? I can't see where.

not directly, but minimum monthly payout £3, so need to spend £60 or bag nothing as i read it..
"The cashback is paid into your account within six weeks of the end of the calendar month when you reach a minimum £3." admittedly within the MoneyWeek article rather than via the Nationwide link.

despite my previous comment i'm into this already. i'm assuming/hoping that local Co-op spend qualifies, along with Aldi, Sainsbury's and Tesco as givens.

Thanks for the info; yeah, that's not in the published T&Cs. If it's a real condition, it might still be possible to accumulate cashback over multiple months without losing it, even if you only reach the payout threshold in the final month. I think that would be closer to how most similar cashbacks usually operate.

i wonder where MoneyWeek had that from. i may be wrong, but their reference indicates a minimum of £3/m to me.
is there any way to see if purchases are qualifying as we go? not as far as i can see.
