How about charging members an advertising fee of 1p per day for displaying signatures? Plus extra charges for links, multiple lines, large/bold fonts, or different colours... raise revenue for our business and clean up the forums all at the same time; eveyone's a winner!

That's a very original idea, which could work very well

To avoid the need to set-up additional payment mechanisms, it would be easiest if we just deducted amounts from someone's pending/earned cashback to pay for their signatures :? In a small number of cases (e.g. a merchant who wanted to pay for a sponsored signature but did not have any cashback earnings), we could raise a VAT invoice for any charges

Of course there would be some development and administration time involved in this, so we'd need to make sure it raised enough money to make it worthwhile. I'll hold a poll to see what everyone thinks of the idea.....

Poll created  Please use that new thread for discussion of that specific idea, and this thread for any other discussion around signature policies

For people who do not wish to view signatures do they realize that you can actually choose not to see them.

To achieve this when logged in.

From the Home page select Profile
then select Manage your forum profile which takes you to User Control Panel page
from where you select Board preferences button which then displays Edit global settings page
here select Edit display options link which then displays Edit display options page
here there is a Display signatures which is currently defaulted to yes - if you do not want to see signatures displayed then select the No button

Once you have done this click the Submit button at bottom of the page to save the change you have made.

Then you will not see signatures .... not even your own.

To summarise the results of our members' polls:

Charge for signatures? RESULT: 14 in favour, 20 against
Restrict links in signatures to "imutual" ones? RESULT: 8 in favour, 4 against
Allow banners / images in signatures? RESULT: 1 in favour, 10 against
Restrict font size in signatures? RESULT: 14 in favour, 1 against

So our signature policy going forward is as follows:

- Any member can add a signature to their posts
- Signatures should not contain images, links to other sites or non-standard font sizes
- Signatures can contain links to other imutual pages, including linking to forum posts which themselves may include links to other sites (provided such posts abide by the forum rules)
- You can use different colours for the text in your signature

Let's see how this goes - we can make further refinements to the signature policy as necessary
