Share statistics at as 24/1/11

Post by richard@imutual » Mon Jan 24 2011 4:57pm

Some members have asked to be informed about how many shares have been issued to date, so I'll try to post updated stats on a regular basis. The figures to date (member shares issued) are:

121841 Awarded
32659 Pending

The Pending figure includes:
- merchant transactions (either validated or not) for which we have yet to receive payment
- Bonus shares for joining where the member has yet to complete their shareholder registration
- Pending claims (i.e. for missing transactions)

Whether you want to include Pending transactions in assessing your share of the company is subjective, but as most Pending shares can be expected to change to awarded it probably makes sense to do so

So if you hold 1000 shares (pending or awarded) out of the total of 154500, that would comprise about 0.65% of all member shares.

Remember that 90% of shares in imutual PLC are 'reserved' for members and if someone were to offer to buy imutual, all undistributed shares would be assigned to members in proportion to their existing shareholding. Let's take the above example shareholding and work through the scenario where someone offers to buy imutual today for £100,000 (I'm not saying this is realistic, just plucking a figure). For illustrative purposes, I'll assume that all pending shares get awarded though in reality this wouldn't be the case

You hold 1000 shares. The company has 5bn shares in total, of which 4.5bn are reserved for members and the remaining 0.5bn are held by imutual Wordlwide Limited. By transferring the 'unallocated' member shares amongst existing shareholders your shareholding would increase to (roughly) 29,250,000 shares, representing 0.65% of the member shares and 0.585% of the total company. So you would receive a payment of £585 for your shares

All hypothetical of course, but hopefully some of you will find it of passing interest :)

Very interesting

Would it be possible to have a figure excluding these (or perhaps excluding members who haven't completed the registration AND not yet earned any cashback)? I'm assuming that if a member signs up and doesn't complete the shareholder registration then they never will.
