People vote for political parties based on what they say they will do in their manifesto.
If enough people back a party, that is a mandate for that party to do what it said it would do.

Well, yes, perhaps I am thinking of simpler times. But that's the principle.

Re: How dare you, Jo

This is not democracy. If the conference backs this vote then that is democracy within the party. But it is not the democracy I can vote for. If this becomes official party policy then I definitely will not be voting LibDem at the next General Election or any other election until this stance is dro...

Forget the fact that the way the United States is structured is totally different to the EU and look at the areas of important news which the UK press seems to have totally forgotten about: https://www.france24.com/en/20190907-fiery-clashes-new-round-french-yellow-vest-protests?xtor=EPR-300-[Info]-...

Re: Brexit Bounces too

Corbyn is now campaigning on a 2nd referendum ticket. So now, normal left vs right politics (remember that?) is pitted against leave vs remain politics. The two do not neatly match up out in the real world. It looks like the election will be Boris and the No Dealers vs Jeremy Corbyn's 2nd Ref. Tune ...

Re: Brexit Bounces too

What country, in it’s right mind, would want to leave the worlds biggest trading block and risk it all without a deal? What country, whilst trying to keep together a collection of union of political opposites would risk that union when a lot of its people are opposed to going it alone? I mean what ...

Re: A Green Initiative gone completely wrong...!!!

Some discussion in these pages reminds me of that adage about not arguing with an idiot. (To be clear before anyone gets on their high horse, I'm not calling anyone an idiot) Or indeed the adage that when you are dead, you don't know that you are dead. It is difficult only for others. It is the sam...

Funny! NASA quotes are gospel when it fits the Green agenda but when it doesn't: "Why do people bother reading such tripe?"... Keeps us all smiling...
Go on, I'll bite.

Which NASA quote are you referring to?

Re: In some ways I do not welcome the new LibDem MP's

I think some of them are leaving because they feel they cannot change their old party, and any attempt to do so will result in them being sacked. For example, Boris has removed the whip from all 20 odd of the Tory MPs who voted against the government last week, even though this absolutely destroys h...
