This is a (Mr) Hilary Brock on ebay but the asking price is far too high for a stoneware figure. It is the porcelain floosies who make the most money but a great piece I would buy if it was at a sensible price:

Would this be considered acceptable if it showed a man beating a woman?

No, I thought not.

This is equally unacceptable.

I agree that woman to man violence is no more acceptable than man to woman violence. It is a pity the way men victims of domestic violence are treated.

But I see this a merely an amusing take on the Women's suffrage movement. Down with political correctness and up with politeness and consideration.

And treat victims of domestic violence equally. Men might not suffer as often as women or be injured as badly in most cases but it happens and in some ways the emotional and mental consequences can be far worse. Too many people read about the beaten husband and laugh but feel that sympathy for the beaten woman.

At face value, I agree.

However, if an image of a man beating a woman was used as part of a campaign against it, to show the horror of such situations, that would be an appropriate use. Or, if it was a metaphor for something else.

This piece is a metaphor for the political change that the women's suffrage movement. It's not an image of violence for the sake of it.
