Meet Me Today - Thursday, April 11, 2019 @10am...

Post by BeautifulSunshine » Thu Apr 11 2019 7:33am

I'll be at the opening of the world's biggest Primark today, Thursday, April 11, 2019 @10am. It's looks sure to be an intense experience.

Met me there. I'll be with my wife. I've told her you are a work colleague (what she doesn't know won't hurt her).

The new Primark is amazing for Birmingham as destination to travel to.

It's a shame HS2 isn't running...!

What an opportunity to buy a new pair of slippers!

PS: If I'm asked, what is the nature of the business we are running together...?

Oh great another new store selling stuff I would not wear and most of the stock on the floor with staff who do not care judging by past experience. Mostly walking through store to get to other side and out to a different road lol

Still a great opportunity for people to buy cheap stuff they can wear and chuck.

Did you know that more greenhouses gases every year come from clothing than all the aircraft miles flown that year? Greenhouse gases to make clothes, transport them, from the landfill as too many people chuck their unwanted clothes via the wheelie rubbish bin.

I went to Primark on Oxford Street once.
It looked a like a hurricane had just blown through.

It's a bit weird that Primark have reinvented themselves to do well when the rest of the High street are failing.

Back in the day, Penneys was like Debenhams in Ireland, a general department store which opened 46 years ago - but even then the emphasis was on "bargains". When they expanded outside the Republic, they found that the Yanks had the name "Penneys" registered, so had to change to Primark.

Under that name, they have expanded throughout Europe - the second biggest store is in Madrid, truly a European phenomenon! But, like many such things, it is no longer an independent, but part of the monster ABF group....

I hate Primark but hoping it comes to my town. We had 3 dept. stores in January. But Beales have taken over Palmers so it makes sense to close down one of the shops and merge them into one. Kerrys took over a failing shop that is round the corner from the main street but has the advantage of having it's own free car park. But sadly they have failed as well so the Mattressman section of the firm will have to top floor and a "national chain" will have the bottom area.

So we have a very large shop towards the top of the main shopping street that would be great for a Primark store. (The High Street is now a collection of small independent shops that do not get a lot of footfall.)

And the reason I want it is the footfall it will bring to the town which hopefully will mean other shops get customers as well. And stop the Primark shoppers going to Norwich to shop.
