I'm pleased to announce that the winners of the Post-of-the-month competition for January 2014, as determined by ratings by our members, are:

Winner (100 shares): blythburgh for the post in the topic Re: imutual an award winner! with 12 thanks

Runner-up (25 shares): kevinchess1 for the post in the topic Oh No 2-0 Quiz with 10 thanks

3rd place (10 shares): pieman for the post in the topic Imutual FA Cup Competition 2 with 9 thanks

The prizes have been credited to the winners' accounts :)

Logged-in members can see the full list of all last month's thanked posts here plus an all-time list of winners can be seen here

Future competitions

I'm making a bit of a change to the rules from this month onwards. We have some regular 'features, such as the quizzes and football comps, which deservedly get lots of thanks and frequently feature in the POTM prizes. However, I think there is a perception that potm awards can tend to be dominated by this category of post at the expense of other original topics and new members. Some may even withhold thanking these posts as a result - -which can't be right

From now onwards, I will exclude such posts from the main Post-of-the-month competition, but may promote some to a 'special' status and award 100 shares. The reasoning is that I think the spirit of potm should be to recognise and encourage substantive and original contributions on a variety of subjects, and it would also be good to see the prizes shared out amongst more members, especially newbies. I hope you can see my reasoning; competition posts can be a great asset to the site and I want to see the best ones properly recognised, whilst also ensuring that potm serves its original purpose of promoting valuable and original contributions :)

Note: someone receiving a 'special award' can still qualify for potm with their other posts.

Good luck to everyone in this month's competition. For a summary of how the competition works, click here.

My giddy aunt, I have come top here. Must have been a very bad month for posts as I cannot see mine as being that special. Having said that thank you very much to everyone who thanked me and got me to the top.

I love you all but I especially want to thank (blah blah blah ad infinitum) and of course my wonderful husband without whose love and support I would never be able to have achieved this (blah blah blah ad infinitum) and finally to my parents for giving birth to me. Not forgetting Lucy, the wonderful Border Collie who lives over the road and whose unconditional love keeps me going.

And if I have forgotten anyone I am sorry. I did write down all your names but the pack of photocopy paper I bought for my speech was not large enough even though I used a small type face when I printed this out. I could have bought another pack but I was tired and it was raining so

Get your hands off me, stop dragging me off the stage, I will probably never win again so need to milk this for all it's worth.

Well done blythburgh - a very worthy winner - especially at the end of a week when you've passed 2000 thanks.

Well done to the runners up as well.

These supermods/administrators who publish their new years resolutions (and other plans that come to nought) like this then fail them should learn what a poor impression they give of their company, when trying to establish a "trust us" we are safe to entrust your cashback purchases with.

If the idea is to Share the prizes round would it not make more sense for anyone getting a Special award to be excluded from that nmonths comp?
If you look at the list of winners the top 3 usually have other entries on the list

Outside of the 'special' posts, I still think the best posts should win regardless of whether the author has won another prize

But perhaps we could increase the standard number of prizes to 5?

5 worthy posts in a month?

Seems a bit optimistic!
