Over 10,000 NE steel workers jobs actually gone while we remained an EU member. Plus all the jobs and businesses that depend on them...

Oh and don't forget to mention the general worldwide turndown in petrol/diesel car sales!
Don't forget to mention the global downturn in steel prices too. Over production mainly in China put a lot of steel on the market very cheaply. Throw in UK production costs at maybe 20x higher than China - with the best will in the world, no amount of subsidy or improved production is going to bridge that gap. I know the criticism of the EU is that its rules don't allow governments to to subsidise ailing industries, but it would have made no sense to do so - it was a bottomless pit. I think Port Talbot was losing £1m a day.

The other criticism of the EU is that it could have raised tariffs in Chinese steel. But that would have pushed up costs for all the companies buying steel, at a time of financial downturn. It would have just transferred the problem elsewhere.

Ultimately there was no good solution. Global economics won out. The UK was expensive, China was cheap.
You have hit the nail on the head.
Bet that's not made from British Steel... :(

That's it, when your pro-Leave point is comprehensively rebutted, ignore it or change the subject.

Yes, that too.
When the response or challenge to your pro-Leave point is just not to your liking, change the subject and ignore it.

Or you could present a counter argument to substantiate your claim that membership of the EU was a significant factor in the decline of the UK steel industry, and the loss of 10,000 jobs.

As I callously said, those jobs have gone and won't be coming back whether we are in the EU or not.

Meanwhile, we have thousands more jobs gone or under threat as a result of Brexit - especially no deal Brexit. And the Leavers don't care; nor can they give any examples of businesses who will be creating jobs in the UK as a result of Brexit.

Wrong: the Minister at the time specifically highlighted that EU regulations which stopped the UK Government from giving financial support.

Actual job loss not possible job loss.

Go on then - tell us who said that? It would be no surprise if they had their own flat earth agenda, did not mention the decades of prosperity, do not care that UK steel will be far worse off outside EU safeguards & unable to compete with China dumping it on the world market, did not make or fight a case for an ongoing taxpayer bailout & therefore had no real intention of doing so, just as with Tata in Wales. Where have you been the last 3 years, haven't you learned anything yet? The millionaires & billionaires behind Brexit are throwing us all off the cliff for their own benefit, not steel industry jobs.

How about if we leave the EU without Adele? I'd vote for that.

No - you haven't read the statement you quote. To repeat it with fewer words: Steel jobs have already gone (whatever the cause). More jobs are now going because of Brexit and there are no new jobs to replace them.
