We have already had a People's Vote in 2016. Why aren't you prepared to accept that outcome?
Some retainers do indeed just refuse to accept that we could be this short-sighted, and argue to cancel brexit on principle.
The closer you get to the middle ground, the more there's a feeling that we've spent three years trying to work out how to achieve Brexit in a way that, even if it doesn't achieve what we were told it would, would nonetheless still be somehow good for the country and the man on the Clapham omnibus. And we can't find a way to do that, so instead we're apparently opting for the worst possible outcome on the grounds that technically it's still leaving, even if it's a crap option for everybody.
So the argument from the middle ground is that now we know a heck of a lot more about the issues and problems and likely outcomes, do we still want to proceed? If the answer is still 'leave', then it would be impossible to argue further against it.
