DoesAmazon care about global warming?

Post by blythburgh » Tue Mar 10 2020 10:27am

I order a pair of braces for a friend plus one other thing for his birthday present. Natually chose free p and p by waiting a few days to get the parcel.

The fairly slim book came in a cardboard thingy that was pushed through the letterbox. The braces came in a box with a lot of brown paper to fill the box which was far too big. The box came 2 days after the book.

Then last week 'im indoors bought a keyboard for the tv and I got a top up of a couple of packs of nail files to qualify for free p and p.

The nail files arrived quickly in a box filled with brown paper. Thought the keyboard was in the box as well until it was opened.

The keyboard arrived in another over sized box with air filled plastic to fill it up.

So instead of 2 deliveries and boxes we got 4. The boxes went into the recycle bin and the brown paper/plastic packing were given to a charity shop to help them pack the nick nacks that are donated and then sold.

But I would imagine most of the paper/plastic goes into recycle bin for more cardboard and the plastic goes to landfill

Amazon has a number of fulfilment centres across the country. Whilst fast-selling items may be stocked in all locations, your goods may have been sent from different locations. This is very likely if they were from third party sellers or amazon warehouse.

Cost is not the same thing as measuring waste and emissions - but it's a reasonably good proxy for it. Large retailers generally seek to eliminate cost wherever possible. Even though it may seem odd to you, separate deliveries may have been better than consolidating into one.
