Quick reminder why the UK is collectively in this mess:
The EU didn't want hard borders with us. We did.
The EU didn't want us out of the Single Market and the Customs Union. We did.
The EU had no need of a border on the island of Ireland, or down the Irish Sea. We did.
The EU had no desire to undermine the status of Brits in Spain, or Spaniards in Britain. We did.
The EU had no desire to add tariffs and mountainous red tape to trade with the UK. We did.
The EU had no need to trash member states and predict - and wish upon them - the demise of their political union, economy and currency. We did.
The EU did not send delegates to our Parliament to turn their backs upon us in a public display of hostility. We did.
The EU did not wish to put Brits in the "rest of world" queue at airports. We did.
The EU did not want us to leave Erasmus, or Galileo, or science collaborations. We did.
The EU did not want us to drop out of visa-free travel, easy travel for pets, or measures to prevent roaming charges. We did.
The EU did not torpedo its own interests, or those of 27 other states, in June 2016 and every year since. We did.
The EU did not put four navy gunboats on standby to "protect our waters", almost literally holding a gun to the head of EU negotiators. We did.
The EU did not announce (and draft legislation for) its intention knowingly, deliberately and brazenly to break international law by contravening a treaty it had recently feted and signed. We did.

Let's talk about patriotism, shall we? People who love their country do not destroy their country's trading position with the world's biggest trading union, or promise "free trade" and deliver the opposite, or deliver barmy borders within their own country.

Let's talk about patriotism, shall we? People who love their country don't sit on their hands and do nothing when they know an infection is sweeping across their country.

Let's talk about patriotism, shall we? People who love their country do not run down its health service for a decade, leave its staff hideously unprotected, promise them a reward in due course and then offer them 1%.

Let's talk about patriotism, shall we? People who love their country do not exploit a pandemic by gifting HUGE contracts to their mates, pub landlords and donors, then hide those contracts and fail to hold useless "suppliers" to account.

Let's talk about patriotism, shall we? People who love their country do not illegally and disgracefully close down its Parliament, lie to its Queen, and deny its people the right to protest.

Let's talk about patriotism, shall we? But when we do, let's talk about it with people who care for others, who value decency and compassion, who are on the side of the people, and the rule of law, and who are genuinely interested in our communities and our prosperity.

I belong to an pro remain FB group but do not have the time to read all the posts. But found one that was shocking in its racism and ignorance that had been copied from a pro brexit FB group.

"I am not British I am English" was the post in capital letters. This was followed by a very large number of small pictures of a flag. The writer was not British but used the Union Jack rather the flag of St George.

Those pesky EU workers, refusing to come back over to our hostile country and take our worse-paid jobs...

I heard today Neil Parish MP (not a Brexit supporter pre-referendum) complaining that the EU were enforcing rules on agricultural imports far more rigorously than the UK. Those damn Europeans. Sticking to the rules.

I thought we left so that we could enforce rules at different levels of vigour to the EU. Rather than complaining, he should he celebrating that this is what winning looks like.

"British food and drink exports to EU fall by £2bn in first quarter of 2021"
Industry body says analysis of HMRC data shows structural rather than teething problems with Brexit
“The loss of £2bn of exports to the EU is a disaster for our industry, and is a very clear indication of the scale of losses that UK manufacturers face in the longer-term due to new trade barriers with the EU,” said Dominic Goudie, the head of international trade at the Food and Drink Federation (FDF).

Brexit is Suez-level bad, only in very slow motion. It will end with the same sort of retreat.

I am not crowing but I am hoping our food and drink companies can thrive and not just survive. I am still so angry we were not given a vote on the outcome of the brexit talks instead of sticking to the pig in a poke original vote. But we are were we are and these businesses have workers and at times owners rather than shareholders.
