I am glad Johnson won and the sooner we can have a General Election the better. I think many soft Tory voters will not vote for the party if he is in charge. Some Brexiteers sadly will vote if he is in charge in the mistaken belief that Brexit will be reversed if they do not.

It's a mixed blessing. Johnson is currently a significant electoral liability, but with the next general election anything up to 2 years away, he can do a lot more damage to the NHS etc in that time.

Perhaps they are now lining up someone to replace Boris for that next election, or soon afterwards.
It is certainly not the "decisive win" he's claiming it is. 4 out of 10 of his MPs don't have confidence in him. That's a huge amount. Perhaps it would better described as a divisive win.

Geidt writes that he was put in an impossible and odious position by the Government's intention to consider measures which risk a deliberate and purposeful breach of the Ministerial Code. Johnson responds on the topic of a potential future Trade Remedies Authority vs WTO conflict.
That's surely a curveball few expected today. No amount of "sovereignty" is enough for this mob. It appears they seek to break WTO rules by maintaining illegal tariffs on steel imports. Anyone else remember all the “Let’s go WTO!” banners?

It seems that the government of the United Kingdom is as contemptuous of this type of international law as it is of others.
This very week we have seen the government of the United Kingdom seek to break international law with the Northern Irish Protocol Bill and make aggressive noises about compliance with the orders of the European Court of Human Rights.
The rules of the World Trade Organisation are now the third international law regime the government of the United Kingdom want to be free from this week – and it's still only Thursday lunchtime.
