I don't
But i don't see a problem with having cash in the bank
Ideally you would sell at it's peak
but you don't know when that is :(

I wouldn't be doing that...unless there was sufficient call for it

But then I am not a very good seller.
At some point you need to lock in your profit whereby the benefits of selling outweigh the benefits of holding. If we feel a share has risen so much that it makes more sense to take the profit and re-invest in an alternative that provides good potential we'd be silly not to. It is not like there are not many shares to choose from - the alternatives to choose from are enormous.

I apologise - I am still playing catch-up since being away all last week...

The biggest issues we have right now are:

- we have still to conclude a strategy for how we want to progress in buying for profit, holding for dividends and portfolio composition and size
- there has been insufficient member feedback about buying and selling thresholds for those we hold
- very few suggestions for the next purchase or ones we should be watching price/news about

I have tried to stoke these discussions but we haven't progressed too much. I have tried not to be seen as imposing a plan that I consider sensible, as I felt that was wrong to do. I've merely suggested what my thinking is. However, a few members aside, we have not had too much additional feedback. This means I can't really tell if my thoughts are similar to others or not.

Perhaps I need to be more forthright and set out a plan that members can vote either in favour or against? Would this be a welcome idea or not? Maybe by doing this and people voting against they can voice what they want changed and we can reassess the plan for a new vote etc...

I would really like to see us progressing but cannot see how unless things are brought to a head via a vote for/against a proposal. Shall I set out a proposal?

Thoughts most welcome.

My thoughts
I( think we should set a Stop/loss for every share we buy which we 'Roll up' as the price (hopefully ) increases
I don't have an issue with money in the bank it gives us a chance to move quickly if needed
I like to see us 'Take a punt' on at least one share. with a Stop/loss and a Stop/gain we should be okay
Can't think of a share I'm interested in at the moment maybe start a thread and ask members to make suggestions
Apart from Sainsburys I'm reasonably happy with our portfolio might be worth having a thread about when to sell RDSB
Perhaps set a point midway between our purchase price, £15.48 and the latest price, £16.68 ish about £16.10 we could move that up every week or set the sell price at 2/3 rds of the difference £16.30 or 3/4 £16.40

Given the nature of our online club and how it works, I do think the most practical way to approach "selling" is to hold a poll along the lines of "Which of our current investments should we sell?".

There would be further details to agree on, like "What is the trigger for holding such a vote?", "Do we list all investments or just nominated ones?", "Do we have a sell nothing option". But I think this general approach is far easier to manage.

At the risk of repeating myself, I am concerned about a knee-jerk "Sell winners, keep losers" mentality. I think by having all investments listed, we can have a sensible discussion about which is least likely to go up in price in future - regardless of past performance
