Investment choice tipsters

As part of our new way of working we want to remove the requirement for members to have to suggest share purchase options. In order to do this we have agreed an easier method would be to make a choice from a range of shares tipped by an investment broker/analyst from a number of months ago. We are then able to review the choices they made for performance since and decide which we'd like to purchase, or not.

We need to decide where the source of the choices will come from. I'm going to suggest a few below for us to decide on a first choice and a second choice. I'm also happy for others to chip in with suggestions. In order to get things moving I'm going to set the ball rolling and put up a purchase poll with tips from Sharecast from a few months ago and see how we get on this month as a test.

For the future polls:

Sharecast News
MIDAS
The Share Centre (this is a filtered list that is always live not tips)
+ your suggestions

What we are looking for is an easy way for me or one of the officers to look at some tipster articles and pull together a selection of 3 shares to vote against, such as here. You can see that with this article there are 3 suggestions, with backgroud information and links to further information.

Please do put your suggestions down or make comments on the ones I have already added to the list of suggestions

Good idea

but having looked at these - they seem to be tipping a number of shares almost every day.

How would we / people choose which ones would be are chosen 3?

Sharecast is every Sunday I think. Therefore if we have one vote a month then there will be four tip articles to look at. I did a test this time and looked at the companies in November that were being tipped. I took a view that the ones in the article I selected represented a good varied selection, perhaps moreso than the other three articles. Unless members had an issue with this I would look at doing the same again. I might look at pulling parts from more than one article if needed and create a new 'hybrid' selection, depending on how many we need in the poll and how compatible they are with our current portfolio spread etc...

It might be that none of the options are liked this time. If not then we can try another selection using the same principle. If that does not work then we would probably need to review and decide upon another method of choosing a selection, perhaps more member driven instead. I'm just conscious the more member driven we are the less efficient we may be (from past selection problems) and me making a decision on a selection to vote on might enable us to get on with things. It's only a selection from what will hopefully be an agreed source, so me leading this part is hopefully not overly controversial. I guess knowing the next month's articles will be reviewed by me would not exclude other members doing so beforehand and mentioning if there are particular companies that are of interest that they would like to include. I can then take that interest into account when making a selection etc.... I'm also considering (as you may have seen in the rolling poll for Medica) that we may want to add to our holding of a company we own. I'm formulating a view on all this as we go along though, to see how things work out

That's actually Sharecast News, as they don't do it themselves.
