I was searching for an offer from "Three" network. When I tried the search on "Post an Offer" Three is shown. When I search "Three" network on the main top-right search box there are no results.

i thought to myself before I inform Richard, old buddy, old friend, old pal o' mine and he breaks it I'll find him the solution.
The solution is used by the likes of Tinder, eBay, Uber, Lyft, Netflix et al.

The solution is free for the basic version.

The solution is Elastic - Open-Source Search Software.

Whilst Elasticsearch is free, there is a massive expensive involved in setting it up, maintaining it and optimising queries.

You then have to modify your existing software to push data into Elastic, and get it to delete records when no longer needed.

There's also the cost of running a server (or using a cloud-native version) since it can be fairly resource heavy at times.

I recently led a team upgrading our Elasticsearch instance to a newer release (and also the software that interacts with Elastic). I reckon it cost around £40,000 just in salary. When you then add on the cost of employing people, you could probably double that.

My experience is this; the cost of buying software is often almost irrelevant compared to the cost of actually getting the bloody thing to work the way you want it, in particular to get it to work with all the other software you've got. :)

So I reckon Bruce is on the right lines.
