What imutual is about is pretty simple: You get a bit of cash paid back to you when you shop online.
Most of the big shops are here, and loads of smaller ones, and also things like insurance, car hire comparisons, sim cards etc. If your shop is listed in imutual, click through via the imutual link and carry on as normal. After that, everything is the same. The prices are the same, the service is the same, the shop is the same, you still get the normal loyalty points and credit card points. The only difference is that the shop pays imutual a little bit of money for 'sending' you as a customer, and imutual passes the money on to you. (The same thing usually happens when you click on an advert online, except the advert people keep the cash.)
It usually takes a few weeks (sometimes months) for the money to filter through. You can watch the glacial progress in your imutual 'Statement' (click the box at the top centre of the screen). It's not huge amounts of cash, but it builds up. You can withdraw it to your bank account, paypal etc as soon as it turns to 'Awarded' status.
There is one thing that imutual does differently: shares. When you earn cashback, you also receive (free, gratis and for nothing) shares in the company. Right now, they aren't worth the paper they're written on - they're just a number on the screen. But the intention is that if the site ever becomes really big and successful, they will convert into actual genuine real shares, worth actual genuine real money. There's no downside to having the shares (you won't have to invest any money!). The idea is that we all have an interest in the site doing well because we sort of own a bit of it. You can safely ignore the whole thing if you want.
(Note - some of the members have formed an entirely separate share dealing club, where you invest your cashback in real stock market shares. There's a section of the forum where you can read what they're doing and join in if you like. It's totally separate and nothing to do with the free imutual shares.)
