I put the BBC news website on earlier. About 8 of the 20 news stories were condemning racism in various forms.

Little britain is racist, this statue is racist, this bulding needs to be renamned as its racist, a sugarbabe was traumatised because she was the only black member of the group, gone with the wind is taken off streaming as its racist. etc etc etc

Its not for me to say what other people feel or dont feel but for me this hysterical throat ramming of every little matter just makes me think the original point diluted and may make many switch off.
It may just be the real campaign has been taken over by self-righteous know it alls who know very little and are just acting out their own self-righteousness..!!!

Sorry, I missed a bit.
Boro Boy, remind me again why you want to ban the bible?
I don't, silly!!! You should really catch up (reading all the thread and not just the last few entries would help!)

But using the same criteria which some people are using, it would seemingly be justified! :wtf:
Sorry, I thought you were quoting passages that meant it should be banned.
But you're actually using them to argue it shouldn't be banned?
Who are you arguing with? Has anyone suggested it should be banned for its references to slavery?

And you're saying the line should be before or after the Bible?
(I assume that's why we're now talking about the Bible, not Gone With the Wind)

There are indeed many other references to slavery, but I don't recall any that promote it rather than merely acknowledging its existence. Do you?
The Bible neither condemns/condones the practice of slavery, it does give say how slaves should be treated.
Slavery is not really addressed in the Bible but slavery was accepted during the time the Bible was written.

Perhaps the French have it right? You can't rewrite the past but you can make sure you attempt to have a better future!

Many former Soviet states tore down statues of Lenin following the collapse of the USSR. Should those have been left in place?

Remove them and remove history or leave them with a plaque pointing out this man who gave so much to the town got that money from slavery.

I prefer the 2nd option as if we are not careful slavery and other things we now abhor will become a forgotten part of our history.

That bloke Churchill said:

“The whole history of the world is summed up in the fact that, when nations are strong, they are not always just, and when they wish to be just, they are no longer strong.”

"A nation that forgets its past has no future."
