Do you fancy a FREE case of wine?

How many bottles would you expect that to include?

12? 6?

Well, in this case it's 3 bottles!

You also receive a magazine and snacks. This offer is an ongoing subscription which costs £32/month including delivery after the FREE trial case, if not cancelled. No minimum commitment; cancel anytime.

After the first case £32 for 3 bottles seems a high price point. It must be good wine.

Not necessarily.

It's a high cost business model - as with all these subscription purchases of goods you can buy in supermarkets, packing labour, packaging and delivery costs alone add a lot. In this case, I'm guessing at 25-45% of the price. And those customer acquisition costs (free product) have to be borne by someone.

Not necessarily. Their beer club generally offers stock that the supermarkets don't carry.

I meant goods of a type you can buy in supermarkets, not specific brands. The subscription services almost entirely offer own-label or near-exclusive products making direct comparisons impossible.

True. These clubs would argue that they provide products that are either higher quality, or not on the supermarket shelves at a price cheaper than if you were to source them yourself.

If you're not bothered by what's in the bottle, then it isn't value for money. You can pick up a bottle of cheap plonk from Tesco for considerably less.
