John Lewis to end "Never Knowingly Undersold"

Post by macliam » Fri Feb 25 2022 2:35pm

Whilst it has been discussed for some time, John Lewis have today sent an email to confirm the end of the price-match promise that has been at the core of their business since 1925.
John Lewis wrote: we will be retiring our Never Knowingly Undersold policy this summer.
They claim this is because it " is no longer serving you in the way that we would like, as it doesn't allow us to match prices from online-only retailers.", but amongst talk of a £500m investment, there is no detail of any supposed replacement just waffle.

Welcome to 2022

Just because I'm paranoid, it doesn't mean they're not out to get me

Hardly surprising really, Their profits have really dropped over the last few years. Partners had a reduced or no bonus in 2021.

Re: John Lewis to resume free coffee and reinstate bonus to "Partners"

Meanwhile
John Lewis has restored its annual staff bonus after sales bounced back in 2021, but it warned customers would see higher prices this year.

The retailer scrapped bonuses last year for the first time since 1953 after seeing heavy losses in the pandemic.

John Lewis sales have now hit a record £4.9bn and Waitrose is up 1% to £7.5bn. Bosses say there are still big cost pressures to pass on to customers.

But Waitrose's popular free coffee will be trialled again in some stores.

The free hot drink for members of the myWaitrose loyalty scheme was scrapped at the start of the pandemic.

But Dame Sharon White, boss of the John Lewis Partnership told the BBC's Amol Rajan: "Coffee we're actually looking at."

"One of the things we haven't been able to do with covid is actually is to have the coffee offer," she said.

"So we're going to be experimenting in a few stores how we do that safely."
