Royal London

anyone else here a member of Royal London?

i have had a small ISA with them for 10+ years, and also have small pension pot which is managed by them, having taken over the Royal Liver.

i have been reading the Strategic Report this evening. they have new branding, which i think looks good, www.royallondon.com, and are bringing all brands into one now, including Scottish Life, Scottish Provident, Bright Grey, Caledonian Life, CIS, RLAM and Money Vista.

it is a big business, with £73.5bn under management.

i should have known pp

what do you think of the way they are developing? some discussion 'elsewhere' re. this too.

they are bringing the various businesses under one main brand, and are looking to significantly increase the brand awareness.

Yes, I saw all the detail in their AGM literature. Seems a good idea to me.

as commented elsewhere, i'm not entirely sure i approve of them pumping money into advertising by backing English Cricket.. but perhaps the increased size and the associated economies of scale will be a good thing for members.

perhaps, one day, Royal London plc will be on the FTSE100

Agreed planteria .. this is not the first mutual where the directors like to give our money to sport advertising when one really needs to question whether it is justified at all.

Yes .. quite correct planteria.

Excess monies should be given to members and not for advertising on sports.

whether advertising which leads to a larger mutual, with economies of scale, increasing value for members, or not...

How to quantify the benefit of such sponsership is one open for debate.

In principle the Nationwide acts like a bank but will not demutualise .. so the directors never had a mandate from the members (ala owners) to sponser sporting events. It appears to be their whim and of course to enjoy the special benefits open to them at the costs paid by the members. Or perhaps the odd member was invited to the hospitality box or tent. Certainly pp never has had an invite.
