Have a look for an expats website - eg http://britishexpats.com - they have specific forums for Slovenia and Hungary and discuss other places in the general "Europe" area (someone currently discussing Prague).

Is the property for leisure or business? If the latter, I would be very, very careful as their laws may not be too landlord-friendly. Even in Portugal, letting property is becoming less and less worthwhile as taxation increases at the same time as regulation.

Equally, prices may have increased since the fall of the iron curtain, but generally they will still be tied to the ability to buy - and wages tend to be very, very low. Buying and selling amongst foreign expats is a limited market.......

Central Europe i know, but i was impressed with Belgrade before Christmas. ascension to the EU is clearly not what it was for some countries, so i think i would be wary re. their economies - and potentially property prices. perhaps nations that successfully look East are a good option.
