they really are desperately poor CS-wise. i can't access my account now - i only got in once. no one can tell me via telephone banking what the problem is, as "the department" that i need to speak to is unavailable other than Mon-Fri 9-5. no one can tell me what the department is, either, just that it is a separate department :mrgreen:.

It sounds pretty similar to the NatWest experience I had earlier this year - as mentioned, to break the deadlock try to visit a branch with some ID (proof of identify and address). The telephone helpline could not sort it out and in my case this happened after the switch had completed, so anyone in this situation who had switched their main account would've been in real trouble if they needed access to banking facilities.
