We were told in a branch of Nationwide in a market town near us that they have been far busier since Natwest closed down. People voted with their feet in some ways at least.

But a bad day for Lowestoft. The Body Shop is not renewing its lease after being there since almost the start. And the Co-op department store that was sold to Beales is also closing. I large 2 story store but many people have been clamouring for Primark to come to the town so maybe they will get their wish. I will not be going in there if it comes but I know many people travel to get to Primark.

I would have thought closing down high street shops and bank branches do kind of force people to use what ever alternative is offered - like it or not...!
But they are closing down because people are not using them, and said shops and bank branches are no longer profitable. What is it about that do you not understand?

And what exact alternative are you proposing that is going to save these shops and bank branches?

Certainly sounds like you have fallen for the banks marketing campaigns in their effort to encourage people to use their on-line services - every bank I use I always end up in a queue and they seem well used and occupied... :wtf:

All those people used to go to their local branch, but it is shut now.
Yours is the one that has stayed open to serve the region.

Not so sure... Besides we are all missing the point - whether its a bank or a shop its the more complex items where a face to face relationship is the best way of solving issues, this is what it sounds we are going to loose. As for the banks; as they strive for evermore profit everyone seems to be falling for their marketing and accepting the situation just making it easy for them for them to close evermore branches, used or not! :wtf:

So the move to online is all marketing spin?

Sure, the banks prefer people to use online services because they are lower cost to provide. But they're also far more convenient and available 24/7. I can't remember the last time I had cause to visit a bank branch. It certainly hasn't been this year and I don't think it was last year. On the rare occasions I need to interact with a real person, I do it by phone.

People are using the bank branches and shops but just not enough in the opinion of the desire to maximise profit companies.

So are you suggesting that retailers and banks should keep branches open that don't cover their costs?

According to the ONS
In 2018, 90% of adults in the UK were recent internet users
