You seem to need further explanation but it is unclear why...!?!
It's nothing to do with high street store closures.
...tell that to the French store owners...!
And they would shrug and say it's a one-day protest, nothing to do with a general malaise on the high street.

The story about is about continuing protests in France is still nothing to with high street closures there. There is no evidence of large scale store closures and bankruptcies there like in the UK.

Wow - that's a real surprise, although it may be more to do with the ownership and financing structure. The news reports suggest that there is interest from potential buyers and the business will continue trading, unlike Toys R Us/Maplin/etc.

This small publisher is now having to crowd-fund its survival:

The Book People have been undone by Amazon and Brexit. There’s clearly a reason the Book People’s funders should have pulled the plug right now.

We’ve warned long and warned hard about the pain these two evils are inflicting on our industry and our writers. But we’re also determined not to be a victim of either.

I’m afraid that you will probably see more calls for solidarity like this one from other small companies like ours over the coming months and years. Brexit is going to continue to hit us hard and we are going to have to find new ways to protect not just ourselves, but the writers we serve and the culture we value.

Some of those 'brands' are gone from the high street but continue online, e.g. Maplin, Staples.

You can visit Maplin online today and enjoy their long range Xmas countdown:
