Hmmm. Sounds a bit like we have partial truths here.

The retail sector always sheds jobs in January, so I wouldn't read too much into the Sky News report of nearly 10,000 being lost this month. It's also not clear whether that figure includes the Morrisons reductions (announced but not implemented) or jobs lost due to Debenhams store closures (announced some time ago and only now taking effect).

There's also no mention of new retail jobs. Aldi and Lidl are both expanding. H&M, River Island and Sports Direct opened new stores near me last year. Are these new jobs counted or is this just gross losses.
