another friendly society merger is on the cards.. https://www.kingstonunity.co.uk/sgm/
as it happens this would actually be a remerger. the society split back in the 1800s.
this is now nailed-on to proceed by the end of 2020. Kingston Unity is a delegate-based society, so the delegates need to approve the merger.. but the board have already made up their minds and it would be unlikely for the delegation to vote against their proposal after they've taken it to this stage, and left no real reasonable alternative path to take.

there was a delay, so, having been approved by the delegation on saturday, the merger between Kingston Unity and Oddfellows is planned for 1st February.

we're awaiting news re LV discussed here.. www.imutual.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f ... 9&start=10

but while Royal London might miss out on "forging a mutual champion" with LV, they've been working to consolidate the sector. this one from last month had slipped past me until now: www.policemutual.co.uk/about-us/news-an ... al-london/

Manchester BS taken over
i've read the Annual Report & Accounts today. there doesn't seem to be any major changes coming in the near future. the Directors continue to bag their salaries.

a bit late now we're into March, but anyone care to make any predictions re changes in the market during 2023?

Manchester BS is being absorbed by Newcastle BS, of course.

how many Building Societies do we have now? 43?

i haven't checked the answer to my own question..

but with recent requirements for DDs i have been re-looking at my pensions with mutual providers: LV, NFUM, Royal London, Wesleyan sit alongside Aviva, Scottish Widows and an ii SIPP. consolidating these pension pots will make sense at some stage.
