This time existing customers don't qualify but at least they've moved the ineligibility date forward to April 2020, which might help someone that previously closed an account.

You wont qualify for the offer if:

* You’re changing an existing Halifax account to a Reward or Ultimate Reward Current Account
* You’ve received cashback for switching to us since April 2020
* You are switching to a Halifax Current Account, Basic Account, Student Account or Youth Account
* You are switching into any existing Halifax bank account

Existing customers are ok as long as you're opening a new account and not upgrading one.

If you were being really brutal you could open an Ultimate Reward Account, fee £17 a month. You could get the switch done asap and the bonus is paid 3 days after that, and then you could downgrade it / cancel it. I think, as it's within 14 days of opening, you wouldn't have to pay the £17 fee.

Opened a new Ultimate Current Account and switched in, bonus paid Wednesday, switch completed today.
Option to downgrade account to basic Current Account is available via the mobile app. At very least, this will mean a pro-rata refund of the £17 monthly fee for the +-10 days I've had the account open. They haven't yet taken the payment, think it's due at start of month.

Not cheeky enough to downgrade today, so will do it over the weekend.

Offer on until December. An easy £125 for anyone who fancies it.

Well done. Just checked, my last switching incentive from Halifax was August 2020, so it seems likely the eligibility date (April 2020) rules this offer out for me.
