Maybe not so good these days..... but there is no charge for ATM withdrawals or purchases in Euros via the MB debit card. You get the current Mastercard Exchange Rate with no additional fees.

This rate, or the Visa equivalent is the "normal" exchange rate used on other cards, who then apply a foreign currency withdrawal/transaction fee, etc. on top, making ATM witdrawals an expensive option. But via MetroBank, you pay only 0.55% over the official ECB exchange rate.

Useful for a second account for the holidays..... you can transfer into it from your main account online and withdraw as necessary. I've used it since MetroBank started.

Looks like a load of faff for £50, plus you have no influence over the person you referred sticking to the conditions. Also, having to send them photo ID just makes Metro look like some dodgy Russian internet bookmaker.

As you wish - but I can vouch for their photo ID system. A year or so back I had a problem with my account that could only be resolved in-branch, which, for me, is about 40 miles away. So I turned up, expecting to get the third degree ..... but was pleasantly surprised that the picture they took when I opened my account in London was all the ID they needed. The whole issue was resolved quickly and efficiently.
