Amex reducing cashback

Post by planteria » Tue Jun 08 2021 11:44am

:shifty: disappointing to see cashback reducing.

instead of 1% kicking in at £5000 it will only do so at £10000.
and the 1.25% rate is being removed altogether.

time to look at alternatives.
i don't think there's a credit card available in the UK that generates btc yet .

I don't even spend the £3000 required to earn 0.5% cashback from Amex these days, so the change won't affect me. I'm currently earning 0.5% cashback from Barclaycard (no minimum spend) combined with discounted gift cards (usually 4%-5%) for supermarket spending.

I don't think your card matches either of the two that are currently available:
  • Platinum Cashback Everyday Credit Card is free for all and accumulates 0.5% cashback from £0 but only pays out if £3000 minimum spend is reached (threshold for earning 1% cashback will rise to £10000 in August)
  • Platinum Cashback Credit Card doesn't have a £3000 minimum spend and is retaining its 1.25% cashback rate above £10000 but usually has a £25 annual fee (cashback rate below £10000 is dropping from 1% to 0.75% in August)

my current terms are 0.5% to £5000, 1% to £10,000, 1.25% above, no fee & no minimum spend.
