Are keen switchers getting a smart meter to save as much as they can now?
I spent a little time looking at the MSE Cheap Energy Club search results earlier this week and noted that the top recommendations for fixed rates are now smart meter only tariffs. If those are excluded then it seemed that staying with Octopus on a variable rate (once my existing fix expires) would be a fair deal, but obviously that's without knowing how severely variable rates will continue to rise in the next 12 months or so. The OFGEM price cap is recalculated every 6 months, so effectively only offers short term protection. There's nothing to stop the price cap rising sharply in April 2022.
EDF have e-mailed a few times recently, trying to tempt me to switch back to them with a £75 incentive. However, whilst I haven't seen/compared their actual fixed price unit rates that would qualify for the offer, there aren't any competitive EDF tariffs showing up in my MSE Cheap Energy Club results.
