funny you should ask as having received a new (old) watch ⌚️ on Saturday i took it with me on a trip away for the weekend and unpacked it, so to check it out, and compare it to the other watch i was wearing - same model, I’ve been ‘Schwatzkopfing’ most of the weekend.

i currently have 30+ watches. looking at another one this week. but looking to consolidate in the next few weeks, potentially to 15.

I'm not exactly sure where my only watch is, haven't seen or used it for years, but that doesn't matter since I can find out the time from a mobile phone, or computer, or smart speaker, or car dashboard, or... wouldn't want to go back to wearing one! ;)

Wearing a watch is not the point, making a quick buck or two is. Although why watches have any value at all in this day and age I fail to comprehend. Out of all the things in this world, it really is redundant. So many forgeries around as well. A very dodgy market.

Why shouldn't a man "decorate" his arm with different watches. Women can and do have lots of watches, bracelets, necklaces, brooches or other jewellery. No difference really and watches can be an investment too

i'm not convinced i needed you to dive to my defence here blyth, but i appreciate it nonetheless

and when you say "the point" Richard, i'm not sure if you mean in society, or perhaps assume that that is my own motivation. i assume the former. but fwiw having worn one watch every day for 11 years, in 2021 i became more interested in watches and have studied, enthused about, collected, bought, sold and had repaired all sorts of watches. my collection does have a reasonable value now, and i've tended to make moves which make financial sense along the way, but 'making a buck' isn't the primary motivation. we all have jobs/businesses/investments for that.

So you are doing what all collectors should be doing. Buying what you love and if you are lucky can sell for a profit.
