James Bond Betting

Post by gle1975 » Mon Jan 24 2022 9:22am

Here is an interesting article on making money from James Bond betting.

https://www2.politicalbetting.com/index ... cting-you/

The author says that there lots of candidates linked with the role of Bond who have no chance of being cast. He suggests betting against people becoming Bond on Smarkets. For example betting £10 against Idris Elba to be the next Bond would win £3000. He is not going to be the next Bond is he?

Of course if Idris was cast as Bond you'd have to pay the money.

This often works, but you have a lot of money tied up in the market and with no set date for declaration: what if, for example, they decide not to make a new Bond film for 4 or 5 years? Your money would be parked on the market, waiting for a conclusion.

There is money to be made from betting against outcomes, but it's better to do it with something that has a defined end-date.

Market here. https://smarkets.com/event/42341860/tv- ... james-bond

Betting against something happening is called Laying.

Doctor Who market here https://smarkets.com/event/42311207/tv- ... t=15888156

I think both will be announced within the year, as they need to start shooting new series/movies.

And as this is a financial forum, betting on interest rate rise in February https://smarkets.com/event/42439899/cur ... erest-rate

If anyone wants any info or help with using Smarkets or Betfair Exchange, let me know.

Can't see you getting good odds on an interest rise surely? Isn't inflation close to 6%?

smarkets.com/event/42439899/current-affairs/uk-economy/uk-interest-rate
Bettors 81% sure of a rise
www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/markets/art ... -rise.html
Traders 95% sure of rise

Value when you can pay 81 for something worth 95.

You can get £20 profit for a bet of £100 on an interest rate rise next week. You're right it's not good odds, but it's pretty much nailed on. Why would anyone offer bigger odds?

You could have packed "Sue Grey report won't be published on or before 28th Jan" at about 11pm last night at 1/50. ie bet £50 to win £1 in profit. Not great odds but again, was pretty much nailed on, the money you tied up was returned about 7am this morning. That's an interest rate of around 2000%.

Here's one:

Ukraine to win the Eurovision Song Contest is current around 3/1 to back.
Gambling is a mugs game, but as long as the contest goes ahead, I can't see many others beating them.
