Anyone feeling guilty about the money can always donate it to a charity of their choice.
Including apparently the Inland Revenue, Which it seems is happy to accept donations.

"Martin Lewis: Is it time to fix my energy bill or should I stick on the price cap?"
There are NO tariffs meaningfully cheaper than the current cap
Yet there are fixes cheaper than the predicted October cap
If you're offered a year's fix at no more than 40% above your current price-capped tariff, or 45% more if you very strongly value budgeting certainty, it's worth considering.

OCT cap prediction UP 64% (so £3,244/yr on typical bills)
JAN cap prediction UP 4% (so £3,363/yr)
