Interest rate rises to 5.25%

The UK's interest rate has been raised to 5.25% by the Bank of England, as it continues trying to control soaring prices.

This means the Bank has increased the rate by 0.25% from 5% - the 14th hike in a row.

The last time the base rate was this high was in April 2008.

Chase UK

Good news – we're increasing the Chase saver account interest rate from 3.8% AER (3.74% gross) variable to 4.1% AER (4.02% gross) variable, effective from 14 August 2023.

That obviously ain't bad, but they're trailing not leading.

Lloyds have increased their savings rates; while not likely to top any tables there are some decent numbers for the high street and if you're an existing current account holder you might receive an extra 0.05% interest on some products, e.g. fixed cash ISA 1 year 5.50% or 2 years 5.55%.
