Aw, bad luck. Not doing it myself as I'm probably already at their limit.

i have Amex and Barclaycard cards used for spending, cleared each month, and an unused MBNA card - the former has no limit and the latter two have large limits, so perhaps their scoring system assesses me to have too much unused available credit already

I don't know although I've lots of unused credit that's never a problem for Santander. I can only recall being declined by NatWest in recent years.

i don’t really mind. i have a substantial balance with Amex at the moment. if i can BT it to Barclaycard or MBNA tomorrow i will do, otherwise I’ll close my MBNA account and use some cash / sell a bit of crypto to clear it and simplify.

MBNA: 2y:6.9% or 1y:3%.
Barclaycard: 2.8% til 01.10.26: so took that.

Have you looked at Moneysupermarket comparison

They say 'See your eligibility: When you compare credit cards with us, you’ll be shown your chances of being accepted for the card so you can apply with confidence.'
