Coronavirus/COVID-19

Post by macliam » Wed Mar 18 2020 1:38pm

I'm a bit sickened by attitudes expressed in the other thread and it looks like this virus will be around for a while. So here's a generic thread for Coronavirus/COVID-19 posts instead.

Just to kick it off, here's a group of Brits reacting to the lockdown in Spain

As I've said elsewhere, we know sod all about this particular strain of coronavirus. We know about coronavirus in general, we know about epidemics/pandemics, but this particular iteration is still being studied.

This is part of the reason why the idea of building "herd immunity" was particularly stupid, as we don't know what the impact of a second exposure to the virus may be. Sometimes antibodies created in response to an infection will block a second occurrence, sometimes they will only diminish the reaction to a second occurrence - what the case is with COVID-19, we have yet to see.
