They may say crime is going down but it is grossly under reported. Mainly because most people think whats the point as most of the time it is not investigated.

The figure for illegal immigrants is inaccurate as it is actually unknown and is just an estimate.

It's actually worse than this. Firstly statistics depend on the the parameters of the query being addressed, then on quality of the data used, then on the reliability of any calculated outcome and then on the published interpretation of the results. Assumption, or basing a survey on the wrong information makes any survey pointless; the way a question is asked can affect the responses and counting non-responses can sway the reults (as in counting unknowns in COVID-19); statistics will rarely provide a fixed outcome, but rather a range of outcomes depending on the reliability required....... and then the interpretation can turn the data on it's head by using the statistics to answer questions that were never asked.

Statistics should only ever be used as a means of supporting observed results, not as an end in themselves.

The impact of COVID-19 on the 3rd world has hardly been noticed as yet, but as they do not have the resources to combat the virus, nor the money to buy treatments or vaccines (if they become available), nor the ability to lock-down day workers who must work to live, the impact is likely to be horrible. Brazil already has almost 16000 dead and a president who calls COVID-19 a "sniffle".

An update on my friend who is in University College Hospital. He has now passed 7 weeks in ICU. He no longer has COVID-19 (he was tested) and has regained consciousness, is breathing for himself and his medication is being reduced.

But he has had blood clots on the lungs (plus "bleeding" from the anti-coagulents, a tricky balance) and has suffered Acute Kidney Injury, which means he is being dialysed. Both the "sticky blood" and AKI are known impacts of COVID-19, which is not just a resperitory illness.

So, hopefully he will be OK, but it's early days. Also, hopefully, he will be left without health impacts - but there is still a chance that his renal function will not recover or that his liability to future kidney failure is increased. Fingers still firmly crossed.
