Yes, this is a great time to go travelling without all the tourists.

And avoid Great Yarmouth and surrounding villages. Apparently the huge rise in numbers (they have emergency testing centres so a lot of testing) is due to locals testing positives not the visitors.

Many years ago I visited Great Yarmouth. I have four memories of that trip.
  1. In one of the arcades, we all sat in fighter planes with virtual reality goggles. I had difficulty getting my plane to even take off and expressed my frustration eloquently. Only afterwards did my friends tell me that our parental advisory audio had been broadcast to everyone over the public system in the arcade.
  2. A small picture frame in the window of a charity shop. It looked like someone had poured tea over the cracked glass in the frame, staining the picture inside. The frame was for sale, with a price sticker.
  3. The painted sign above a shop selling white goods and juggling equipment announced "Strippers for hire (paint)".
  4. Elvis was alive and well in Pizza Hut.

Cannot remember the last time I went to Great Yarmouth. I know they had a Marks and Spencers and a Palmers department store. Now M and S is a food hall on a retail park and Palmers was sold to Beales so that is two huge empty shops I am guessing. Then there is the question of what has happened to the BHS shop aas I have not been I have no idea. But I understand that the former huge shop that had various bits of the Co-op businesses in it has been split into indivdual shops. No idea if that has happened or if any have been occupied.

But at least I am spared the heartbreaking sight of seeing children feeding their own toddlers chips from the one of the market stalls.
