What a day. Did not even wake up until 8:30. Neighbour phoned: her carer said black (landfill) bin missing and not in surrounding roads. I phone East Suffolk Norse who do collecting. No contact council but they will need crime number or pay for new bin. Friend is paying for carers 4 times a day so although she gets a private pension I feel that is not fair on a 94 year old frail lady. Police fill in online or wait a long time on phone. Pages of details have to be put online. It will take a few days to get a crime number and then a few days to get a new bin for free. So we will have to go over and collect a bin bag of rubbish including dressings every morning and put in our bin. Ain't life great?

Interesting that providing a crime number gives exemption from paying for a replacement bin in your area.

Not sure why age and/or frailty should count in this case more than ability to pay.

We can just request a new bin if ours goes missing or is damaged.
No charge, and it certainly isn't treated as a crime!

No charge here either. But where one leads others sometimes follow.

They only replace paper and food recycling containers free here, which is a policy that's been unchanged since I first checked it several years ago.
The others (wheelie bins) are charged at £30-£40 each, with no published exceptions. Presumably as a result of these fees, it's not uncommon to see households that continue using bins with detached or missing lids.
Garden waste bins are rented here rather than owned by householders and can also be replaced under the subscription terms (think it's limited to 1 replacement per year or something like that).

Oddly when 'im doors went across to collect bags of rubbish just before midday it was there. Someone obviously took the wrong bin although it has the house number on it. But having discovered there mistake not only brought it back but put in alongside the bright (and I do mind the brightest imaginable) blue recycling bin.
