reusable tissues

Post by blythburgh » Mon Dec 27 2021 10:35am

Yesterday I saw an ad for re-usable tissues which would save loads of trees. They came with a washable holder shaped like a tissue box. The tissues are reusable because you wash them at 60degrees in the washing machine.

I have been racking my brains because the idea did not seem new somehow. Then I remembered we all used to have cotton hankies and some old ladies used to have a cotton pouch they kept their clean handkerchiefs in.

Ah but the new bit is the hankie is called a reusable tissue and is housed in a reusable tissue box. Wonder how many will fall for this and pay more than a packet of cotton hankies cost.

Regardless of the above. having to wash them at 60 degrees is not very environmentally friendly when the majority of washing can be done at 30/40 degrees. Bit of an own goal methinks in more ways than one.

We add some tea tree oil to the wash and conditioner area of the machine and wash at 0 degrees. Must admit we do have lightly soiled stuff. Clothes have been far softer since a Chilean friend got us to do this.

If we did there would be far less in landfill or in our case taken to be incinerated

Never able to be a Mother, the hysterectomy came before I met the love of my life. So not in a position to be holier than thou and say to any parent you should not ever use a disposable nappy.
