Bye-Bye Georgy Girl

Post by macliam » Tue Aug 09 2022 2:12pm

It has been a tough week for australian female singers..... we also lost Judith Durham, singer for the Seekers, aged 79 from bronchiectasis, a chronic lung disease.

The Seekers bridged a difficult period between the folky skiffle era and the start of the pop/rock explosion in the early 60s. A bit "straight and geeky" to modern eyes, they typify the folk scene of the early 60s, but their singles "There'll never be another you" and "The Carnival is Over" were hugely successful - and "Georgy Girl" was the anthem of "Swinging London"......

I was more upset about her death than I was about the also lovely Olivia Newton-John who deserved her title of Dame far more than most who get the gong of Dame or Knight
Keep smiling because the light at the end of someone's tunnel may be you, Ron Cheneler
