There's a phrase to make you feel old! :(

Do a survey, go down the list of ages or year at a time and that is really depressing

The day you move into a property is not the same day as your energy supplier
When you contacted them to take it over they would have given you a start date
Up to that date you are responsible for the energy use and have to pay the previous supplier
As stated talk to them about it
Politically incorrect since 69

they are seemingly unwilling to discuss it.. and i'm not sure you are right there Kelv. they are aware that the day i was handed the keys the meter was set to a small credit balance, i then I topped up and have maintained a credit balance ever since - dropping down at the point that i transferred across from SSE to COE.

Are you saying you knew it was SSE before you took over The property and you informed them 4-6 in advance of the date you were taking it over?
If you did then you have nothing to worry about

They have to be able to justify the bill. if not it would seem to me that you are quite within your rights not to pay it. Tell them that until you have a full breakdown of the bill it will remain unpaid. If they send you the bill and you are still not happy then refer to The Energy Ombudsman. In my experience the Ombudsman is impartial and helpful and should be able to help you deal with the matter.

Yes re. knowing that SSE were the supplier. No to informing them in advance. On the day. I paid for my electricity from that day onwards.. and i won't be paying for it again .

agreed William, and that is my position. the bill is clear, but seems to me to miss the fact that it is a ppm that has, by definition been Pre-Paid .

"You won't receive a bill from us" being the pertinent point.
