The "King of Clubs" .... has died, aged 77, from cancer. He did not want his cancer to become public knowledge, quite a feat for a man who loved the limelight.
Though known latterly for his lap-dancing clubs, he left school at 15 and spent time in the merchant navy as well as working as a cinema projectionist, steel worker and salesman. He began running dance nights at his local church that led to launching his own club called Black Hat club in 1962 and two more in the following two years leading to the King Mojo Club which hosted acts such as Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Wonder, and Ike and Tina Turner. He then opened clubs worldwide. Only after a bankruptcy in the 1990s did he change the focus to strip clubs.
He married three times, finally to an ex-lap dancer, 41 years his junior, with whom he had two children.
His estimated worth according to "The Rich List" was $50m.
Another of London's "odd socks" has gone......
Just because I'm paranoid, it doesn't mean they're not out to get me
