How to fund the police and prison service

Post by blythburgh » Fri Sep 14, 2018 10:07 am

It is easy and no need to raise taxes. Just cancel the HS2 project. It will cost a fortune, destroy peoples homes and damage the environment. And all it will succeed in doing is bringing more work to London and the South East. Other countries have tried to achieve more jobs outside of the capital with an HS2 and it has not worked.

So the money saved could be spent on our police and prisons where things are at breaking point.

And the jobs further north? Create them by making it easy to get from the North East to the North West. Getting a train from anywhere to London is easy peasy. Getting a train that takes from east to west is far from easy. More trains and maybe roads linking the towns and cities in the east with the west would create more jobs.

I am not thinking about the prisoners but how the cuthacks have affected the number of Prison Officers and the risks to life and limb this has caused.

Too often now prisoners are locked in their cells hour after hour. This does nothing to rehabilitate them and they will just go out and come back time and time again. No education, no training just boredom which leads to violence.

The prison officers are living in fear of hearing that one of their fellows has been killed.

Rubbish. Prison should be about reforming and rehabilitating people. Yes there should be an element of punishment or even retribution. But punishment should not be the ultimate goal
