Cineworld - sold yesterday

Post by garindan » Thu Dec 13, 2018 9:54 am

All,

Our Cineworld shares breached the tracker threshold yesterday AM, so were sold ~@259p. I'll update details as soon as I have time to enter them here.

Anyone want to take a look at ITV? We hold some already and if we still believe in it then it's dropped 5% this last week. it might go lower, depending on advertising over the Christmas period, and it is one for the medium term to hold so it might not match the current direction (!!!) of the club, but I think it's worth a glance from a second pair of eyes to see what we think.

I've always been keen on ITV. I think it is only down to the levels we see due to BREXIT. The facts are the studio output is still strong and the back catalogue is worth a considerable sum. There is also talk of them selling the Love Island franchise for 1 billion.

Just checking do you definitely mean 159p and not 259p? 159p would represent a very short term in-day drop with an almost immediate rebound before because on quick look the lowest I can see it has finished any day over the last few weeks is 262p.

We bought for 262p.

159p = loss.

259p = profit.

Most likely a loss as if I remember correctly we set a stop:loss and not a profit:sell. A loss would be very unfortunate more so that the share was up ~20% at one point.

If this has been sold at 159p and what you are saying about the end of day prices is correct, then we need to review all stop:loss shares immediately.

Don't think you have any do you?
And why would you review them?
IF there had been ! with Carrillion
then you would be in much better shape than you are at the moment

Sorry about that it was a typo! 259 was the price.

We agreed a tracker setting for Cineworld, like we did for the original purchase of Medica. In both cases they kicked in and the shares were sold. New purchase of Medica has no such tracker or limit set. Whilst we may have saved 50/60% of the Carillion investment by having a stop/loss setting it would only have kicked in should someone else be interested in buying them at the price offered. That would clearly have been a better result than getting nothing for them as it turned out, obviously, but we always make the right decision in hindsight. When the polls were put up we voted and decisions were based on the outcome, just as they were here with Cineworld - there is no conspiracy to see, let's make that clear.
