Help please? Edinburgh

Post by margaret7 » Wed Jan 09, 2019 3:57 pm

Any thoughts, help please?
We have been given tickets for the tattoo in August, (to follow) also Superbreak vouchers.
Any help with hotels welcomed, location etc.
The voucher could be kept for another break.
Not decided the best way to travel yet, rail, car or bus.
Daughter thought it might be an idea to pick a hotel outside Edinburgh, on a bus route, but not sure about that.
I know it will be very busy and need to get something sorted. We just used the vouchers from the year before, in December.

As you say, Edinburgh will be rammed in August - tourists, festival, tattoo, meaning that hotels will already be starting to book up and prices sky high.

How about staying somewhere like Falkirk? 20 miles out from Edinburgh and about 30 mins by train. Also gives you the option of visiting Glasgow which is about the same distance in the opposite direction.

If you do decide to stay in Edinburgh, there are good tram and bus links from the airport to the city centre, so flying can be an easy option.

I just returned from Edinburgh in the New Year and I would advise to go in the summer months.

To sum it up, it was - cold, wet and dark.

Last May we stayed for a lovely long weekend in Edingburgh before exploring other areas on Scotland. We stayed in a lovely AirBnB property in Leith, a very nice suburb with some lovely cafes, restaurants etc. If you don't mind walking it is about 30mins into the city centre or alternatively it is a mainline bus route and there are plenty off them. If it is of interest at I might be able to find out the name of the accommodation we used for you.
